school care
effective date 01-01-2023
There may be days when you can't or don't want to use our childcare. You'll then be given optional hours to use at another time. You can use these optional hours if the group capacity allows. This is a service provided by Kober, not a right.
There are different types of hours, with different periods of validity:

Good to Know
Kober adheres to the staff-to-child ratio (BKR). The BKR is the ratio of staff to children in a group and depends on the age of the children in the group. This may mean your child cannot attend on a requested day because there are too many children (of a certain age) in relation to the number of childcare staff.
Your child will not be attending daycare for a day (or part of a day)
You may then use these optional hours up to six months after the date of absence.
You can use the hours of official holidays at another time during the calendar year. We call this holiday compensation.
If you have optional hours you can use them
You can only use hours if you've cancelled your child's appointment for a different time on a contracted day, or if you have holiday compensation. Not before.
The build-up of hours is child-related
The optional hours, holiday compensation, vacation hours, or flexi-hours are child-specific. You cannot use these hours for siblings.
If your child changes locations within the same childcare type during the year, you can carry these hours over.
Your child moves on to another type of childcare
If your child moves to another type of childcare, or if the contract ends during the year, any remaining hours will be forfeited. You will not receive a refund.
Deploying optional hours
Optional hours are hours that arise when you report your child(ren) absent on a contract day.
How are optional hours created?
- You must report your child's absence from before-school care before 07:30 AM.
- You must report your child's absence from after-school care before 07:30 AM.
- During the holidays, you must cancel your child's attendance four days before the planned day, by 7:30 a.m. For example, if you want to cancel a planned day on Friday, you must cancel your child's attendance by 7:30 a.m. on Monday (four days in advance).
- You must report your child's absence from school before 07:30 AM.
You can do this in the Parent App by clicking "log out." The Parent App will register this day as optional hours that you can use at another time.
How do I enter my hours?
In the Parent App, you select the date of the day you want to work and indicate which hours you'll use. You can then choose from optional hours, holiday compensation, vacation hours, or flexible hours.
I want to volunteer for a day, but I don't have any optional hours or holiday compensation. What now?
You can only use a day if you've accrued hours. This means you have to cancel your child's attendance for a day before you can use optional hours.
Don't have any optional hours yet and would still like an extra day? We'll charge you for it. In the Parent App, you select the day you'd like to use and indicate that you'd like to be invoiced for that day.
Can I cancel my day?
Yes, you can cancel your day up to 30 days before the appointment. If the extra day falls within these 30 days, you can cancel the day. unsubscribe (do not press cancel) and optional hours will be created.
Rules of the game
The creation and use of optional hours and holiday compensation works as follows.
Sign out
- You can unsubscribe your child through the Parent App. You can unsubscribe your child six months (182 days) in advance in the Parent App.
- If you've canceled your child's childcare on a contracted day but still want to use childcare on that day, you'll need to re-apply for that day in the Parent App, following the rules for using hours. You can use these hours if the group's occupancy allows. We adhere to the BKR (Credit Registration Office) in this regard.
- You can deregister optional hours, holiday compensation, vacation hours, or flexi-hours, and the day will then appear again in your hours. The same rules apply.
Use optional hours or holiday compensation
- You can request your hours 182 days in advance.
- If part of your holiday falls within 182 days, you'll see the entire holiday period.
- Your application will be approved or rejected no later than 21 days before the start.
- Is there no room?
- You'll then be offered an alternative group to fill your requested hours. This offer is valid for 24 hours, after which the offer and your request will expire.
- If there's no room in another group either, you'll be added to the planning list. The group will then see your request for time slots. If there's still room due to a cancellation, the group will notify you via the Parent App.
- Want to invest hours but don't have them? Then select the "extra" option. Then select "Invoicing."
- Do you have hours available, but not enough for the number you want? Then you can choose to pay for the remaining hours via invoice.
- Before-school care (vso) and after-school care (nso) can be used for each other. So, vso for nso and vice versa.
- For a long afternoon of after-school care, you can schedule multiple short after-school care hours. For example, if a long afternoon is 6 hours, you can schedule two 3-hour after-school care sessions.
- A vacation day can only be used for a holiday day and school-free days.
- You can only use hours for school-free days. These are separate hours in the Parent App. Are your school-free days used up? Then you can also use vacation hours, optional hours, holiday compensation, or invoice hours.
School-free days
For each after-school care contract day, you receive 24 hours of free time (during school hours) in the Parent App, which you can use per calendar year. The number of hours depends on your start date in the calendar year. We calculate this pro-rata based on the number of months of childcare in that year. These hours can be used individually.
Note: Your child isn't automatically registered for a school-free day. If you want your child to attend after-school care during school hours on a school-free day, please let us know via the app no later than 28 days before the school-free day.
School-free day on a contract day
Request childcare during school hours through the Parent App. We'll then review your application first. You can also use your vacation hours, optional after-school care hours, or holiday compensation for school-free days.
If you have after-school care on this day and your child is unable to attend, please cancel. If you don't have after-school care on this day but would still like to attend, please request it using your optional hours or holiday allowance, or via an invoice.
If you have a contract for off-time for the lower grades and your child doesn't attend on these off-time days, you won't receive any optional hours for this.
School-free day not on a contract day
Request childcare during school hours through the Parent App. Your child can attend if the staff-to-child ratio allows.
Do you only have a vso contract?
Then you can purchase this day if the BKR allows this.
Do you have flexible childcare?
Then your school-free hours are already included in your flexitime. Request childcare during school hours through the Parent App. Your child can attend if the staff-to-child ratio allows.
Holiday in the Parent App
You must submit your holiday requests via the Parent App no later than 28 days before the school holidays begin. If you submit them less than that, you will no longer be able to request them through the Parent App. Contact your location to see if there are any options available.
40 week package
- Your child will only come during the school weeks of the Southern Region.
- Want to take a day off during the holidays? You can request it in the Parent App. You'll then receive an invoice for the day off.
47 week package
Your child is scheduled for the 40 school weeks. At after-school care, you have 77 hours per contracted day to use during the holidays. The number of hours depends on your start date in the calendar year. We calculate this pro-rata based on the number of months of care in that year. If you would like to use a day during the holidays, you can request it through your holiday hours.
Is your child going to a different location during the holidays? Then your child will be scheduled for the 40 school weeks at the first location. Before the holidays, you have 77 hours per year per contracted day at the second location. You can request this day by using your vacation hours to be used at the second location.
As of January 1, 2022, the 47-week contract can only be purchased for other children from the same family of customers already using the 47-week package. Switching to this package is no longer possible.

Your child is scheduled for your contracted days during the holidays. Would your child like to come on a different day during the holidays? Please request this in the Parent App no later than 28 days before the start of the school holidays. You can cancel a holiday day and use these optional hours for another holiday day.

- You must report these holiday days via the Parent App no later than 28 days before the school holidays start.
